Sustainable Energy for Power Systems in Remote Areas

Sustainable Energy for Power Systems in Remote Areas

Power Systems in Remote Areas is a core focus area for RISE. Murdoch University and RISE have extensive knowledge and expertise in this area having been involved in it since 1990. The focus is not just on systems for outback and rural Australia but also involves the area of rural electrification internationally. RISE will build on its existing expertise and further develop its capabilities in this area and become nationally & internationally recognised as a leader in design, research and testing.  This will be achieved through:

  • Product development & performance testing of systems and components
  • The involvement in development of appropriate standards for stand alone power systems, rural electrification and associated components and technologies
  • System design and optimisation
  • Skills development in the installation and maintenance of renewable stand alone power systems
  • The further development of inverters, batteries and other balance of systems (BOS) components
  • The application of new technologies, such as fuel cells, into these systems

Outdoor Test Area

The outdoor test area is located on the Murdoch University campus. There are demonstration systems and outdoor testing setups for research and commercial testing

Testing Services

ResLab, RISE's test centre, provides a range of testing services for components and systems used in stand alone powers systems.

Standards Development

A key industry support activity of RISE is the involvement in the development of standards both nationally and internationally.

Professional Development and Training

Professional development and training of industry participants is another key area where RISE assists industry and the community. The courses offered by RISE are developed in collaboration with industry, standards groups and universities.

RISE's RRPGP - Industry Support Project

RISE has been provided with significant funding through the industry support component of the Renewable Remote Power Generation Programme (RRPGP) for a range of activities that provide support to the remote power industry. A key component of this project is the ongoing operation of ResLab, a laboratory for testing and standards development for renewable energy systems and components.

RISE Publications

RISE research publications focus on the areas of Stand-alone Power Supply (SPS) Systems, Distributed Generation, Sustainable Transport Fuels & Systems and the Built Environment.
