The Act of Kindness Award recognises teams or individual staff that have displayed acts of kindness
that have made a positive difference to the wellbeing of an older person.

The Milperra team are incredible. They go over and above to make every stay the best it can possibly be. You could say they are doing their job, but what makes the difference is the way they do it – with empathy, creativity, humour, and a commitment to person centred care.
By way of example: Joan, a client, met her partner many years ago but Covid and travel restrictions put a stop to them meeting face-to-face. You see Joe, her partner, lives in America and Joan lives in WA. They carried on their relationship, for two years, over Facetime.
On hearing Joan had booked a trip to Italy at the end of May to meet Joe, staff couldn’t pass up the chance to celebrate. A special Italian luncheon was planned – the room was decorated, and food was a celebration of Italian cuisine.
Looking at the photographs of the day, Joan’s daughter responded: Please share this story with the world – this is how aged care services should work. You and your team are amazing. You have made my heart sing.
This is just one of the many compliments this team have received, and they certainly do make your heart sing.
