This morning we had a visit from Arlene and Ken. Arlene is a local historian and Ken, an illustrator who had worked as a young man in the Gwalia mine. They came together to create two historical books about the York and Gwalia town sites. Our members enjoyed the informative talk which created lots of interest and memories restored from their own pasts. One of our members Margaret Lynch had moved from York after her husband passed away, today is her birthday and Arlene presented her with a signed copy of their York book. Margaret was moved by this very generous act.
Fact: Did you know that the word Gwaila is a Welsh word for Wales.
