Pride Month

By Rise

Pride month is celebrated each year to honour the 1969 Stonewall uprising in Manhattan, recognise the impact that members of the LGBTI community have had on history, teach tolerance and call people to remember how damaging homophobia was and still can be.

The first Pride march was held in New York City on June 28, 1970 on the anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. It was originally a one-day celebration and soon grew to encompass a month-long series of events. To find out more about Pride Month, follow the link https://www.loc.gov/lgbt-pride-month/about/
