Badminton will make its Paralympic debut at Tokyo 2020 and Rise Support Worker, Caitlin Dransfield will find out if she’s made the team in a few weeks time. “To be able to represent Australia at the Paralympics would be a dream come true.”
Irrespective of the outcome this three-time Australian champion has a lot to be proud of. She’s juggling an intensive training routine at the WA Institute of Sport, employment at Rise and studying a Bachelor of Disability and Community Inclusion.
“I love showing people that you can do whatever you want even though you have disability. That shouldn’t be a defining thing. I love the job and I love studying disability.”
“Rise has been really good. They’ve allowed me to have time off when needed. When I’ve wanted to cut my shifts back I’ve been able to talk to my Coordinators and they’ve been really helpful. They are always asking me how training is going.”
Caitlin’s advice for other people with disability is to give everything a go. “Even if you don’t think you can do it, give it a go. Modifications can be done to support you. Don’t give up!”
