Yirra Mia's Casino Royale

Today Yirra Mia hosted a Casino Royale Day. Our centre was extravagantly decorated with giant playing cards, streamers and balloons. As the clients walked into the centre, they were greeted by Yirra Mia's staff dressed up as Casino croupiers. Upon arrival, each client received a money bag filled with chips to spend for the day.


We kicked off with a guessing game. Each of the clients had a placemat in the form of a playing card and had to guess what card they had in order to win extra chips. After that we had a staff come around the room with the travelling Wheel of Fortune, where the clients had a chance to spin for even more chips.



The main event consisted of four casino game stations on rotation. We had Snake Eyes, Roulette, Blackjack and Two Up. Each station was wiped down and sanitised after use.



Midway through the games, we had a visit from a very special guest, the king of rock, Elvis Presley, in the flesh! He sang, danced and rocked out with all of our clients on the disco floor.


For lunch, our master chef, Paul, cooked a scrumptious three course, casino themed lunch. This included cream of cauliflower soup, roast pork with crackling and roast vegetables, followed by a delicious peach crumble with ice cream for dessert.

Once our bellies were full and we could eat no more, we counted all of our chips. The person with the most chips won a $20 Coles and Myer gift card, while the person with the least amount of chips won a wooden spoon covered in golden glitter.

Overall we had an amazing day. The activities we had planned were so interactive and all the clients really got involved. It was so good to see everyone, including our staff and volunteers, smiling, laughing and enjoying every moment of the day. A big shout out to our magnificent staff for pulling off yet another big day at Yirra Mia.
