Last week, Centenery was filled with the vibrant spirit of Kakadu National Park, thanks to Eric McCrum OAM, naturalist and nature photographer.
With a collection of over 100 unique photos, Eric narrated captivating tales from his experiences at the park. Members marveled at the rich biodiversity of Kakadu, from giant termite mounds and paper wasps to ground-nesting birds nestled in the spinifex grass and fig trees with roots that extend the entire way down cliffs! We also learned about the unusual phenomena of the park having two high tides and two low tides a day, and took a deep-dive into the beautiful locations where the iconic film Crocodile Dundee was shot.
Eric's stories didn't just revolve around the flora and fauna of Kakadu. He also enlightened us about the deep-rooted Aboriginal art and culture, which has left its mark on more than 2000 locations within the park!
The engaging talk was entertaining, educational and inspirational as Eric highlighted the complex beauty of Australia's biodiversity and heritage. We were truly privileged to have Eric share his wealth of knowledge and memories with us and can't wait to have him back again.
