Respite care is all about giving you and your caregiver short breaks. We provide short term respite within the comfort of your own home or at our country cottage in the Perth hills. Talk to our team about personalised support to meet your needs.

Care in your home

Flexible respite can be provided in your home or in the community. It may include assistance with daily living activities, such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication management and mobility support. This service is provided under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme .

Overnight care (Cottage Respite)

Nestled in the Perth Hills, Milperra cottage is available for short-term respite and provides professional and personalised care for guests who are ageing or living with dementia. 

Guests love the relaxing environment which allows the flexibility to choose activities to suit their routine and needs. 

Guests enjoy the following:

  • Home cooked meals to suit their tastes.
  • 24-hour support, 7 days a week.
  • Qualified staff experienced in assisting people who are ageing and/or living with dementia.
  • Private room with access to a shared dining and lounge area.
  • Outings in the local community.
  • Flexibility to stay for between 3 to 14 nights (may be extended in some circumstances).

Frequently Asked Questions

Milperra has 3 private bedrooms with adjustable beds and shared bathroom/toilet facilities. Our dining and living areas are communal areas, and we provide home cooked meals tailored to the preferences of our guests. 

There are numerous leisure activities available including reading materials, TV’s with access to multiple streaming programs, easy access gardens and outings are arranged when possible. 

We have locked gate and fencing around the property. However, it may be best to discuss your situation with one of our team if you require a secure environment.   

Milperra can cater for a range of care needs, including guests on HCP level 4. Guests must require minimal assistance with ADL’s (prompting and supervision are available at all times).

Milperra cannot provide any kind of nursing or wound care during respite (though we are happy for HCP provider to arrange external services to be delivered within our facility where necessary).

We cannot accommodate guests who use oxygen therapy, or those who require hoist or two-person transfers. Guests in a wheelchair must be able to transfer with standby assistance only.

To ensure our services are accessible, we offer CHSP funding for clients in the East Metro area and facilitate brokerage through HCP for clients in any area. We’re here to help navigate the options to best support your needs.

Yes, we can take responsibility for administering your medication. We have requirements around packaging of medication that can be discussed with our coordinators. 

Our staff are unable to administer any subcutaneous medications (such as insulin for diabetic clients). We can verbally prompt clients to do this for themselves or other arrangements may be made via your HCP package.

Yes. Qualified support workers are on active duty at all times including night shift.  

We are open over public holidays, except over the Christmas/New Year period. 

Yes. We do ask that visitors let us know if they intend to visit by calling in advance. This ensures we haven’t gone out for the day. 

We don’t provide transport to or from the cottage for respite stays.

Please bring personal items including medications, toiletries, incontinence products and any special dietary foods. You can also bring any personal items such as memory books, photo albums or hobby items like knitting.
